Sensei John McGrath (Chief Instructor)

Waterford Martial Arts was founded by John McGrath in 2005, as the natural progression from his lifelong interest in sports & fitness coaching, combined with a dedication to kickboxing.

Having already earned his 2nd  Dan  in Ultimate Kickboxing, 4th Dan in Hapkido , 2nd Dan in Filipino Martial Arts, Kombatan, representing Ireland in rowing, winning silver at the Mexican Grand Prix Regatta and Gold in the Irish and Belgium Open Championships, and also presenting Ireland in kickboxing  in the European Championships in 2006 , John knows what it takes to achieve the highest levels in Martial Arts and other competetive sports.

John is also currently the  Irish High Performance Fitness Coach for the Irish Kickboxing team which competed in Serbia in 2007 giving its best ever performance by winning 4 medals at the W.A.K.O. World Championships.

John also coached Mount Sion , 2000 Munster champions and Waterford Senior Hurling Champions three times in a row, so has a succesful track record in fitness training and goal attainment coaching.
As a graduate of Waterford Institute of Technology , Waterford City , Ireland ) , John has an in-depth knowledge of the scientific under-pinning of training in all areas of sport.

Sensei James R. Stuart Jnr, started martial arts at the age of five and a half, he was first inspired by his father (Robert James Snr.) who was a brown belt and also his uncle who was a black belt.



 At the age of 7 he changed to the kicking style of Tae Kwon Do, where he graded to his Red Tag and competed in many international competitions. Two years later he joined a Judo Club, where he graded up to green belt, Sensei Stuart competed in local and regional competitions.

The in 1997 he found Masters Temple International Martial Arts Academy, the Head Master Instructor Massan Ghorbani world renowned Martial Artist Hall Of fame inductee. Master Massan graded Sensei Stuart to his 1st Degree Black Belt in Karate Kickboxing, Grappling and Weapons. Grandmaster Massan taught Sensei Stuart the leadership skills and teaching knowledge, Sensei Stuart remains one of Grandmaster Massans top students and instructors.



Sensei Stuart is a member of two Irish Kickboxing teams and competes at  high profile World and International and also National competitions. Also has coached at many martial arts tournaments.
Conor Geary (Cardio Kickboxing Instructor and Personal Trainer)

Conor Geary was born in Waterford, Ireland and has interested in sports and fitness from an early age. Conor began training in the arts of Tae Kwon Do in California, USA in 1992 and received his black belt after several years of intensive training and dedication under the guidance of Korean Grand Master Chang.

Awards/Qualification:

  • Completed a Personal Training course in Bally’s Total Fitness, California, USA
  • California State Champion in 1997 in Tae Kwon Do
  • Part Time Aerobic Kickboxing Instructor – LA Fitness, California, USA
